The reference to the month of October is because the Tuesday after the first Monday in November is the date for national elections (as well as many state and local elections), and therefore events that take place in late October have greater potential to influence the decisions of prospective voters. The term came into use shortly after the 1972 presidential election between Republican incumbent Richard Nixon and Democrat George McGovern, when the United States was in the fourth year of negotiations to end the very long and domestically divisive Vietnam War. This is a scene from Dark City. This movie is 10 years old and I just watched it for the first time. I loved this movie! I can’t remember since when I haven’t seen a good movie like this one. Why don’t they make sci-fi movies like this one any more?

Thanks to producer Mikki Christou – and for lending his Ovation copy. The middle of the piece is based on the idea in John Mclaughlins DAWN. An odd arpeggiated theme which then recurs fitting over a 12 bar middle. I don’t normally do this sort of thing but wanted an instrumental to showcase my playing. Holdsworthians will observe the obvious riff references and acoustic guitar tone. The chords are not borrowed from any of Allans books but employ similar harmonies such as minor 2nds. The two biggest stretched chords were based on elongating a 7#9 shape to produce variants. Formally these are voicings of more straightforward chords. Some of these though resemble passing harmonies that occur in Classical guitar pieces. The intro and Outro is a bit like some of the Romantic / Classical pieces I was writing for a Guitar Concerto project. Formally it fits the ‘Romantic’ banner more. I will do an Allan H and apologise for the gravity towards the melancholy. The end resolution to Major 7 and witty Funky mid 8 are intended to counteract it. Analysis – I am using an Eb Aeolian or F# major against G#m6 with an A# bass (slash chord). I then sidestep down a tone and change the form to Dorian. Many of the ideas employ Pat Martinos use a Minor a 5th above the root Minor formula. I have found this enters the world of Spanish music further.
